You’ve decided to finally remodel your kitchen and you’re in the design phase, wondering what you need and want – and what is worth actually including. We’ve written down our list of kitchen must-haves and a few “extras” to help you give some ideas.
2019 Must-Haves For Your New Kitchen
So what do you really need in your kitchen? While we can’t tell you that exactly, here is what we have found most homeowners – and home buyers – want.
A Multifunctional Island
Kitchen islands are wonderful and add much-needed countertop space to any kitchen. But frequently, that’s all these islands are: countertop space. When picking out an island make sure that it is multifunctional. Include drawers and cabinets, opt for a countertop stove, or even have a built-in pet feeding station! The sky is the limit!
Pull Out Trash & Recycling
External trash cans take up space, are easy for pets to get into, and if there isn’t a tight seal, can add an odor to the air. Keep unsightly trash tucked away in cans that pull out of the kitchen cabinets.
Lighting
One thing that is lacking in many kitchens is excellent lighting. Not only should lighting be included throughout the ceiling but it should be included underneath hung cabinetry and even inside of cabinets.
Walk-In Pantry
Storage is important in every room of the house. Optimize storage space by including a walk-in pantry where fabulous ingredients for every meal can be stored.
Doors To An Outdoor Space
If possible, ensure that you have an entryway in the kitchen. It will make summer evenings in the backyard so much easier when food and drinks can simply be brought from the kitchen to the outdoor dining area. If you’re into BBQ, it’ll be easier to bring supplies back and forth from the kitchen.
A Dishwasher
This might seem obvious, but many older homes do not yet have a dishwasher. If you’re remodeling an older home be sure to have the plumbing altered so that a dishwasher can be added.
An Appliance Garage
There are so many wonderful appliances that can make cooking and baking much easier – not mention fun! But these appliances take up a LOT of counter space. Be sure to have an appliance garage so that when not in use, these fabulous machines can be tucked away.
Extras That Are Fun To Have In The Kitchen
While these aren’t must-haves, these additions may make life a little easier.
A Pot Filler
What is a pot filler you ask? This extra faucet is added to any part of a kitchen that has a cold water line and helps to free up sink space when using numerous pots.
Speakers
Background music is a great way to add additional fun to the kitchen and built-in speakers are the best way to ensure you can get into the groove you are feeling.
A Tea & Coffee Bar
It’s no secret that Americans love their coffee and tea. Installing a designated coffee and tea bar is a fun addition to any kitchen. Be sure to include a dedicated space to store mugs and other supplies!
A Tray/Sheet Rack
It’s so much easier to store cutting boards and cookie sheets when there is a specific space for them. This way these flat utensils won’t slide around whenever it comes time to move one.
A Warming Drawer
When preparing meals timing is key and it’s important to always have meals that are supposed to be warm stay warm. The key to ensuring this happens is a warming drawer. With one of these installed in your kitchen, you’ll never have to worry about timing again!
